Abstract

This work utilizes detonation spraying to deposit Fe-based amorphous coating (Fe-based AC) with a highly dense microstructure on a carbon steel substrate. The electrochemical and wear performances were studied. The droplets show disk-like morphology with the highest circularity and expansion factor, which is crucial to reduce the defects of as-sprayed coatings and to form fine-lamellar-structures coatings with dense microstructure. The friction coefficient under the NaCl solution was reduced by approximately 70% compared with that under the dry condition. The tribo-chemical reactions between Si3N4 ball and water molecules play a significant role in wear behaviors for coating in water-lubricated systems. The wear performance of the coating was affected by the viscosity and corrosiveness of the solution in water-lubricated systems.
