Abstract

Abstract In this study, the compressive properties of selective laser melted (SLM) Ti6Al4V lattice structure were studied. Based on results and discussion, it was found that hot isostatic pressing (HIP) treatment significantly influenced the microstructure and compressive properties of the SLM Ti6Al4V lattice structure. HIP resulted in a transformation of acicular α′ martensite in the AF sample into a mixture of α and β lathes and a simultaneous reduction of internal porosity from 5.9% in the AF state to 0.5% after HIP treatment. As a consequence, the HIP samples exhibited significantly improved compressive strength and fracture strain as compared to the AF sample.
