Abstract
Relevance. Merino sheep have horns, their uterus is hornless. In recent years, for practical reasons, many countries are breeding for hornless.Methods. The article gives the results based on many years of observations and analysis on the phenomenon of hornless in the new meat breed “Etti Merino” created in southeastern Kazakhstan, the connection of hornless with productivity and the positive effect of selection on hornlessness on the breed.Results. The use of hornless sheep-producers gave a positive result, live weight increased, slaughter indicators, and wool productivity improved.

Summary
Мериносовые бараны, как правило, имеют рога, матки же у них комолые. В последние годы из практических соображений во многих странах, где развито овцеводство, селекция ведется на комолость. В статье даны результаты многолетних наблюдений и анализ влияния комолости на продуктивность у созданной на юго-востоке Казахстана мясной тонкорунной породы етти меринос. Влияние признака комолости на продуктивность животных устанавливали в различные периоды роста и выхода животных желательного типа в годовалом возрасте от комолых производителей. До использования немецких мясных мериносов в стадах етти меринос основная масса баранов-производителей (85–90%) была рогатой. Использование комолых баранов-производителей дало положительный результат, повысилась живая масса, улучшились убойные показатели, шерстная продуктивность.
