Abstract
The effect of honeybees (Apis mellifera L.) on crossing percentage and pod set in guar [Cyamopsis tetragonoloba (L.) Taub.] was studied by comparing crossing blocks caged with and without bees and open‐field crossing. Crossing was increased threefold in the block with honeybees, compared to the open‐field and absence‐of‐bees crossing blocks. Maximum detected crossing using the glabrouspubescent marker was 13.3%. Pod set in open‐field and with‐bees crossing blocks was significantly higher than where bees were excluded; however, seeds per pod was greatest where bees were excluded. Cultivars differed significantly in pods per plant, seeds per pod, and amount of cross pollination.
