Abstract

The frequency of various types of nucleoli was investigated in tissue cultures of human embryonal lung and HeLa cells cultured in the presence of calf thymus histone. The nucleolar morphology and the frequency of various nucleolar types were dependent on the concentration of histone in the tissue cultures of the human embryonal lung cells. HeLa cells required longer cultivation with histone to manifest some effect on nucleoli. In both cases, the observed nucleolar changes suggest the depression of nucleolar RNA synthesis.
