Abstract

The control diet was a 3,025-kcal, solid diet containing 40% of calories as carbohydrate, 43% fat, and 17% protein fed in four meals daily. The glucose and sucrose diets were liquid diets supplemented with vitamins and minerals which were fed in four equal feedings. The glucose diets contained 3,000 kcal with 15% of calories as calcium caseinate; 20, 40, 60, or 80% as glucose; and the remaining calories as corn oil. The sucrose diets contained 2,800 kcal, and minor adjustments in total calories were made to maintain body weight. These diets contained 15% of calories as sodium caseinate, 40 or 80% as sucrose, and 45 or 5% as corn oil.
