Abstract

Abstract Structural and Optical properties of wide bandgap undoped and 5 atomic % Co doped ZnS nanoparticles are reported here. These nanoparticles are prepared by solvothermal method. X-ray diffraction and UV-Vis spectrometer are used to study the structural and optical properties. Heat treatment is given to as-prepared nanoparticles to observe the effect of heat treatment on their structural and optical properties. X-ray diffractograms reveal predominant cubic sphalerite zinc blende structure of as-prepared doped and undoped ZnS nanoparticles. Heat treatment at higher temperature shows the formation of ZnO, both in doped and undoped ZnS nanoparticles. A slight red-shift in the band gap energy is also observed both in the heat treated undoped and 5 at.% Co doped nanoparticles.
