Abstract

mice are consistent with an antibody depenclent mechanism of clearance. The CBA/N mllice have a delayed IgG and deficient IgM response in comparison to CBA/H mice, but the antigen specificity and isotype of the antibodies actually effective in immune clearance have not been investigated. Whether the rapid clearance of mf and the associated antibody responses of CBA/H mice can be compared to the responses of natural hosts is questionable, but antibody reactive with the surface of mf, as demonstrated in CBA/H mice, has been implicated in control of microfilaremia in human infections with B. malayi (McGreevy et al., 1980, Am. J. Trop. Med. Hyg. 29: 553-562) and in other filarial infections (Weiss, 1978, Acta Trop. 35: 137-150).
