Abstract
It has long been assumed that plant growth substances act through the stimulation of RNA and protein synthesis (Key 1969). But all recent papers confirming such a hypothesis report a more or less unspecific increase of all classes of RNAs. Masuda et al. (1967) demonstrated a growth independent enhancement of RNA-synthesis in Avena coleoptiles. If these results are correct≫ as expected, we should think about an influence of growth substances on the RNA-polymerase itself.
