Abstract

Abstract The effect of governor dead-band nonlinearity is considered by using the describing function approach. Results show that the governor dead-band (backlash) nonlinearity has a significant effect on the system performance only for small disturbances. A variable structure control algorithm and the conventional integral control are investigated in this paper. It is shown that the variable structure controller is less sensitive to this nonlinearity.
