Abstract

abstract–The effects of cortisone acetate and hydrocortisone acetate on the incorporation of35S‐labelled sulfate in the loose connective tissue of the rat incisor pulp have been studied. A reduction by 25 % and 50 %, respectively was found. This was interpreted as representing a decrease in the synthesis of sulfated glycosaminoglycans (mucopolysaccharides), especially the chondroitin sulfates which are the main glycosaminoglycan fraction in this tissue. The effects of glucocorticoids on the chondroitin sulfate synthesis are discussed in relation to dentinogenesis and tooth eruption.
