Abstract

This work concerns the down- and up-conversion properties of microcrystalline samples of Pr3+ doped (Lu,Y)3(Al,Ga)5O12. In order to figure out a relation between the down- and up-conversion efficiency, the optical properties involved in the up-conversion process were observed in more detail by excitation and emission measurements, under X-ray, VUV, UV-C, and blue light excitation. The phase purity was determined by using X-ray powder diffraction and diffused reflection measurements as well as time and temperature dependent measurements were performed. In addition, Al3+ was substituted within 20% steps by Ga3+ and some investigation on the change in the optical properties with increasing Ga3+ concentration was made.
