Abstract
In this work we studied the effect of weed competition over the growth of two years old Pinus patula seedlings. Under a complete randomized experimental design were tested three tratments of weed control, consisting in manual weeding every two, four and six months, against no weed control. During following growing season, weed control had a positive effect in seedling growth. Diameter growth was greater in the most severe weed control treatment. However, height growth was bigger in the low intensity weedling. Sturdiness quotient improved those seedlings in the treatments with weed control, reflecting an increase to withstand physical damage by wind and water stress.
