Abstract

In this study, the effect of addition of zinc and erbium on the corrosion behavior of magnesium alloys in phosphate buffer saline (PBS) solution was studied. Also, the fluoride coatings were developed and their corrosion behavior has been studied. These alloys were synthesized using disintegrated melt deposition (DMD) technique followed by hot-extrusion. Results show that the addition of Zn and Er reduced the grain size of as-extruded alloys and it has enhanced the corrosion resistance. Compact fluoride coatings were developed, their microstructural characterization was carried out and they further enhance the corrosion behavior.
