Abstract

Background: Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is an autonomic disorder characterized by excessive increase in heart rate (HR) upon upright posture. It may present with palpitations, shortness of breath, nausea, lightheadedness, and syncope. Fludrocortisone acetate (FA) is a standard treatment for the orthostatic symptoms associated with POTS. We hypothesized that in patients with POTS diagnosed by tilt table, FA improves the response of the autonomic nervous system and decreases the rate of nausea during upright tilt.
