Abstract
For feeding the world population, gross crop productivity has to be increased and the primary hway to achieve this goal is through increasing the yield. In last few decades, significant efforts have been made to increase the yield of the crops. However, due to increased cropping intensity, the quality and productivity of many farming lands is continuously deteriorating. The poor soil management, improper use of fertilizers and soil contamination are major contributing for declining capacity of the soil to function optimally.
