Abstract

Fas/FasL system is recognized as an important apoptotic signal transduction system. Fas ligand (FasL) induces apoptosis of Fas-positive cell and its mechanism has been confirmed by a large number of studies. Recent studies have found that many diseases in the central nervous system (CNS), such as ischemia, degeneration, infection in the pathological process of immune inflammation all accompanied by the increased FasL and Fas levels, and at the same time, they also induce the release of some cytoldnes, indicating that Fas/FasL plays an important role in the regulation of immune/inflammation response in the CNS, and such role does not depend on the apoptotic pathway, This article reviews its progress in research on the inflammatory response in the CNS. Key words: antigens, CD95; Fas ligand protein; central nervous system; immunity; inflammation; cytokines
