Abstract

s / Journal of Veterinary Behavior 9 (2014) e1ee19 e17 while the suckling time ranged from 3-7 hours per day between puppies between litters. Significant differences were found in relation to ano-genital licking between litters, but the behavior was not significantly different within litters. Contact varied within and between litters. Early findings suggest there may be differences in maternal care received between litters. Future analysis will compare patterns of parental care acrossmultiple litters aswell as interactions within the litter, which may lead to studies measuring the behavior and response to stress in older puppies to determine if there is a relationship between maternal care and future behaviors.
