Abstract

Objective To explore the effect of eyeball massage nursing care on intraocular pressure and pain after glaucoma surgery. Methods 114 glaucoma patients undergoing surgical treatment at our hospital from June, 2014 to December, 2015 were collected and randomly divided into a control group and an observation group, 57 cases for each group. The control group was routinely cared; in addition, the observation group was given eye massage nursing care. After nursing care, the control of postoperative intraocular pressure and pain were compared these two groups. Results 3 and 6 months after surgery, the intraocular pressures were (14.63±2.31) mmHg (1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) and (14.87±2.05) mmHg in the observation group and were (16.69±2.12) mmHg and (18.74±3.24) mmHg in the control group, with statistical differences (P < 0.05). 3 d after operation and before discharge, the pain scores were (4.23±1.32) and (3.79±0.82) in the observation group and were (5.14±1.29) and (4.67±1.32) in the control group, with statistical differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion Eyeball massage nursing care for patients with glaucoma can effectively control intraocular pressure and ease the pain caused by surgery.
