Abstract

Total exchangeable potassium was measured in a group of dogs undergoing cardiopulmonary bypass with the radionuclide technique ( 42 K). No alteration of total body content occurred after perfusion. This study supports the finding that a decrease of total exchangeable potassium does not occur solely as a result of extracorporeal circulation.
