Abstract

In this study, MgP2O6:Eu3+ phosphors were successfully synthesized via combustion route and varying the concentration of Eu3+ ion in the host at 0–3.5 mol%. The XRD results of undoped and Eu3+ (2.5 mol%) doped exhibit that the prepared material was obtained in a single phase (Monoclinic phase). The excitation and emission features were also studied and the result indicated that the as-prepared sample can be a prospective candidate for red emitting near-UV LEDs. The mechanism responsible for the quenching effect (decreased luminescence) was obtained to be electric quadrupole-quadrupole interaction. The average life time of optimum molar concentration of Eu3+ (2.5 mol%) doped MgP2O6 phosphor was calculated and obtained to be 3.02 ms.
