Abstract

The effect of enzyme therapy on scar formation and axonal regeneration after a cerebral knife lesion was investigated. After brain lesion rats were treated with a regime of daily trypsin and elastase injections or daily hyaluronidase injections for a period followed by daily trypsin injections. The examination of sections from the brains of these animals failed to reveal any axonal regeneration or any differences between them and sections from untreated control rats with brain lesions.
