Abstract

Measurements of mean and fluctuating pressures on a rough circular cylinder in uniform flow are presented. The experiments were carried out with and without end plates, at critical and transcritical Reynolds numbers. The effect of the end plates was found to be very significant, of the order of 15 to 20 percent. The characteristics of the flow transitions around rough cylinders are examined in the light of these and other results.
