Abstract

The emulsion copolymerization of styrene and n-butyl acrylate was conducted at 70°C using anionic or nonionic emulsifiers, or a mixture of both at different concentrations. The effect of the emulsifiers on the overall conversion was examined. The latex morphology with special attention to average particle diameter and particle diameter distribution was also studied. The latexes were characterized by LASER light scattering (LLS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
