Abstract

AbstractAn experimental study of the dynamics of electrodissolution of iron in sulfuric acid is reported. The experiments were done under potentiostatic conditions with a rotating disk electrode as a function of two parameters, potential and electrode diameter. The dynamic behavior depends strongly on the latter parameter; with increasing electrode size we observe transitions from periodic oscillations to low‐order chaos to higher‐order chaos. The attractor dimension increases with increasing electrode size. In addition, for the large electrodes at more positive potentials, a secondary higher frequency oscillation also arises.
