Abstract
There are many factors that affect to the quality of electromyography (EMG) signals such as electrode position, type of electrode, analog front-end, and environmental noise. This paper proposed the system used to measure the electrode skin impedance, which is one of the most important factor affecting to the quality of EMG signals. The impedance measurement was developed based on AD5933 chip controlled by Arduino Mega 2560. The electrode skin impedance was designed to operate at frequency 5 kHz to 20 kHz to see the pattern of the electrode skin impedance. The experimental results show that the electrode skin impedance decreases when the frequency increases. The quality of EMG signals based on SNR shows that the low electrode skin impedance is better than the high electrode skin impedance. Thus, in order to obtain the EMG signals with high quality, the electrode skin impedance must be as low as possible.
