Abstract

Now a days due to increasing participation of renewable sources in the production of energy there are more frequency fluctuations and this frequency instability is not possible to be controlled with load frequency control (LFC) alone. Meanwhile electric vehicles (EV) are gaining popularity to improve the frequency stability. In this paper multi area multi source power system with electrical vehicle by using Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA) optimized Fractional order PID (FOPID) controller in the presence of EV is considered. The superiority of SSA is expressed by comparing with other algorithms like local unimodal sampling (LUS), differential algorithm (DE), teaching learning based algorithm (TLBO). Likewise FOPID controller is also compared with other controllers like I, PI, PID and the superiority of FOPID is demonstrated. The investigation reveal that SSA tuned FOPID controller provides the best dynamic performance for settling time and peak undershoot in deviation of frequency and deviation in the power of tie-line with EV.
