Abstract

An electrically charged crystal of naphthalene shows characteristic evaporation etch pits not found on evaporation of an uncharged crystal. The charge is deposited on the crystal from a corona discharge in air. The effect of the charge is apparently to nucleate evaporation at sites where nucleation is unlikely in the absence of charge.
