Abstract

Objective To investigate the clinical advantages of early postoperative enteral nutrition support for patients with esophageal cancer than delayed enteral nutrition support in the recovery of intestinal function and nutritional status. Methods The data of 85 cases of esophageal cancer operation were retrospectively analyzed. Among the 85 cases, 43 patients were given enteral nutrition group (EEN group) at 12 h after operation, and 42 patients were given enteral nutrition after heard bowel sounds (DEN group). Postoperative enteral nutrition related complications were detected, the postoperative anal exhaust time, albumin and prealbumin levels 7 days after surgery were detected. Results There was no significant difference between the two groups in postoperative intestinal complications (P>0.05). The exhaust time of EEN group was shorter than that of DEN group, the difference was significant(P<0.05). The levels of albumin and prealbumin in EEN group were higher than those in DEN group, and the differences were significant (P<0.05). Conclusions Early enteral nutrition support can better promote the recovery of intestinal function, and effectively improve the nutritional status of patients after surgery. Key words: Esophageal cancer; Early enteral nutrition; Postoperative recovery
