Abstract

This work describes the change in thermoluminescence (TL) behavior of ZrO2:Eu3+ nanoparticles due to the dysprosium co-doping synthesized by using the conventional solid state synthesis method. They were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), FTIR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). The XRD result shows a nanocrystalline material with a cubical phase along, while TEM images display particles of spherical shapes of diameters in the 25–35nm range. We report on the TL glow curves and kinetic parameters, activation energy, order of kinetics, and the frequency factor of europium, dysposium co-doped zirconium (ZrO2:Eu3+, Dy3+) phosphor under UV irradiations, The TL glow curves were recorded for different doses of UV exposure at a heating rate of 5°C/s. The kinetic parameters activation energy E, the order of kinetics b, and the frequency factor S of synthesized phosphor of ZrO2:Eu3+, Dy3+ have been calculated by using a peak shape method.
