Abstract

The influence of soil–structure interaction (SSI) on the responses of an isolated bridge structure, subjected to seismic excitation, is investigated. The study considers the laminated rubber bearing and the lead rubber bearing for the seismic isolation of the bridge. The specific objective of the study is to evaluate the performance of the isolators and to investigate the effect of SSI on the seismic performance of the isolated bridge. A significant variation in the responses and the performance of the isolators are observed when the SSI is considered. It is concluded that consideration of SSI can lead to a more realistic structural modeling and more economical design of structures.
