Abstract

This paper investigates the effect of the DSTATCOM allocation on the system power loss in an unbalanced radial distribution systems. A DSTATCOM (Distribution static compensator) is placed at each bus of a distribution system, one at a time except the source bus, and system power loss is evaluated. A three-phase modelling of DSTATCOM is developed and incorporated in the forward-backward sweep load flow algorithm for the unbalanced radial distribution systems. The DSTATCOM is allocated on a 34-bus unbalanced radial distribution systems, and the results show significant reduction in system power loss.
