Abstract
The results of a typical analysis of the effect of double refraction on type II phase matched second harmonic generation are presented. It is shoen that walk-off results in a more severe reduction in conversion efficiency compared to the case of type I phase matching. A scheme for type II second harmonic generation involving non-collinear phase matching is discussed in which the walk-off can be substantially reduced.
