Abstract

Objective To study the effect of double dose of atorvastatin combined with benazepril on the cardioversion of patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. Methods Eighty-six patients with persistent atrial fibrillation were randomly divided into two groups, the control group and the observation group, with 43 cases in each group. They were given electrical cardioversion or amiodarone cardioversion. The patients in control group were treated with single dose of atorvastatin combined with benazepril 14 days before treatment and after treatment, while the patients in the observation group were given double dose of atorvastatin combined with benazepril 14 days before treatment and after treatment. One month, 3 and 6 months after treatment, the maintenance of sinus rhythm after cardioversion of atrial fibrillation was observed, after 6 months of medication, the left atrial diameter was detected, and the blood plasma high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) and N-terminal brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proB- NP) levels were detected. Results Successful eardioversion was achieved in 33 cases (76.7%) of the control group and 39 cases (90.7%) of the observation group respectively, there were significant differences (P 〈0.01). After 3 months, 6 months of treatment, the maintenance of sinus rhythm rate in the observation group was higher than that in the control group ( P 〈 0.05 ). Before treatment, there was no significant difference in the left atrial diameter between the two groups (P 〉 0. 05 ). After 6 months of treatment, the left atrial diameter in the observation group was significantly smaller than that in the control group ( P 〈 0. 05 ). The plasma hs-CRP and NT-proBNP levels significantly reduced after treatment in the two groups, and those in the observation group were significantly lower (P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusions Double dose of atorvastatin combined with benazepril can significantly increase the cardioversion success rate, and better maintain the sinus rhythm, reduce the atrial remodeling and inflammation in patients with persistent atrial fibrillation. Key words: Atrial fibrillation; Atorvastatin ; Benazepril
