Abstract

The antibiotic Dio-9 is a known inhibitor of photophosphorylation and has been used previously in experiments carried out by MCCARTHY et al. (1965), GROMET-ELHANAN (1968), and WEST & WISKICH (1969). This compound operates as an inhibitor of photophosphorylation, inhibiting only the coupled electron transport. Inhibition of electron transport by Dio-9 can be relieved by uncoupling factors: NH+(MCCARTY et al. 1965, WEST & WISKICH 1969) and CCCP (GROMET-ELHANAN 1968).
