Abstract

Summary and conclusionsPotassium causes diminished strength on isometric contractions in the isolated turtle heart. This decrease in strength of contraction is progressive with increasing concentration of potassium in the perfusate. Digitalis does not protect against development of an asystole in the isolated turtle heart, but does sustain the strength of myocardial contraction.
