Abstract

Abstract Forty adult male rats of the Wistar strain were forced to exercise by swimming with a mild overload for 30 min. per day for 28 days to establish swimming fitness while 10 rats served as controls. For the following 28 days, 30 of the forced exercised rats continued to swim on the same regimen but at different periods of frequency. Spontaneous activity was determined throughout Analysis of variance applied to the data at the termination of the initial and second 28-day phases revealed no statistically significant differences among group means.
