Abstract

A tunnel vehicle fire is usually accompanied by traffic jams and less attention has been paid to the effect of multi-blockage on the fire characteristics in longitudinal ventilated tunnel fires. Thus, this study has revealed this point based on a full-scale model tunnel(100 m in length, 12 m in width, and 6 m in height) by Fire Dynamic Simulator(FDS) considering the different configurations of blockages, namely transverse and longitudinal. Results show there exist significant differences between two typical configurations of blockages and the distances between blockages have great effects on the fire characteristics in the cases with transversely arranged blockages. Moreover, the empirical models for maximum temperature rise and longitudinal temperature decay are developed and predict the numerical results well.
