Abstract

Cement emulsified asphalt mixtures are a kind of potential pavement material, but the adhesion between coarse aggregate and asphalt still needs to be studied. In this paper, a qualitative analysis method of the surface morphology of coarse aggregate was proposed and used to evaluate the surface morphologies of four kinds of coarse aggregate, including diabase, basalt, steel slag and recycled aggregate. The interface observation method, surface energy method and shear strength method were used to study the cohesiveness of the coarse aggregate and cement emulsified asphalt. At the same time, the immersion stability test and indirect tensile strength (ITS) test were carried out, and the water stability of the cement emulsified asphalt mixture was explored. The results show that the qualitative analysis method of coarse aggregate surface morphology is a convenient and practical method, and its evaluation results have high reliability. In addition, the surface morphology of the coarse aggregate has a positive correlation with the adhesion of the cement emulsified asphalt mixture, and it also has an indirect impact on the water stability of the mixture.
