Abstract
A feeding trial was conducted on 120 day old broiler chicks (Cobb 400) reared on deep litter system with 4 treatments groups of 30 chicks having three replicates of 10 broiler chicks each. There were 4 dietary groups (T1, T2, T3 and T4) employed in the experiment. The first group (T1) was control in which no supplement was added to the basal feed, while in T2, T3 and T4 group was supplemented with black cumin seed in basal feed @ 0.5, 0.75 and 1.0 percent, respectively. All birds had free access to the feed and water. The results of the experiment on performance of broiler chicks indicated that the dietary inclusion of black cumin in broiler chickens increased body weight gain, reduced the feed intake, improved feed conversion ratio (FCR) and performance index significantly (P<0.05), with best performance in group supplemented with 0.5 per cent of black cumin. On the basis of present study it can be concluded that, dietary black cumin seeds supplementation at 0.5 percent level may be recommended to improve the growth performance of broiler chickens.
