Abstract

The effect of diallyl disulfide on the cytosolic glutathione reductase activity in mouse liver was studied. After treatment with diallyl disulfide, hepatic cytosolic glutathione reductase activity was increased with dose-dependent pattern as compared to control. The Vmax of glutathione reductase was increased by the treatment of diallyl disulfide. But Km value was not influenced. Whereas, the hepatic glutathione reductase activity was not affected by the addition of diallyl disulfidein vitro. In this experimental condition, hepatic glutathione level was elevated. The results suggested that the characteristics of increase in the enzyme activity may include induction of enzyme protein. Meanwhile, it was considered that the increment of glutathione content is due to induction of glutathione reductase activity by diallyl disulfide injection.
