Abstract

Fluoride uptake by enamel from a sodium fluoride varnish (Duraphat®) in cleaned and plaque-covered central incisors of 55 children aged 14–16 was determined using the etching technique. 3 weeks after the application, fluoride content in the enamel was significantly increased by the varnish. No significant difference in fluoride uptake was found between the cleaned and uncleaned teeth.
