Abstract

Effects of symmetrical but opposite density variations upon recovery, grade and circulating load for a rougher-cleaner-scavenger (RCS) heavy-media circuit are investigated using circuit analysis. The general selection function equation for the RCS circuit is derived and then differentiated to find the maximum slope at the cut point. Increasing the reduced specific gravity in the cleaner cell by 0.3 and decreasing it by an identical amount in the scavenger cell in an RCS circuit, normally having a selection function slope of 1.00, results in increases in slope of 15%, in recovery of 3%, in grade of 7% and in circulating load of 68%. However, for commercial dense-media operations, where the selection funtion slope is far steeper, negligible gains will result from this strategy.
