Abstract

Effects of DDT on RNA and protein synthesis in Stylonychia notophora are described. Ciliates were exposed for 6 h to 100 ppm DDT. The synthesis of RNA and protein was inhibited all through the period of cell cycle. The degree of inhibition of RNA and protein synthesis was dependent on the age of the ciliate at the time of treatment. G 1 and S phase ciliates were more susceptible to DDT as compared to G 2 ciliates.
