Abstract

Crystal plane dependant photocatalytic activity of zinc oxide has been explored in the present study. Two morphologically different structures are achieved via template assisted hydrothermal method. The prepared ZnO systems are well characterized by X-Ray diffraction analysis (XRD), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Diffuse Reflectance UV spectroscopy and surface area analysis by BET method. It is revealed that ZnO with flowerlike morphology shows two fold increase in the photocatalytic activity when compared to the rod like ZnO system. The effect of polar and non-poalr sufaces in zinc oxide on the activity is investigated in detail.
