Abstract

The self-pulsation characteristics of amplifying feedback lasers (AFLs) composed of a distributed feedback section, a phase tuning section, and an amplifier section for various coupling coefficients are investigated. AFLs with anti-phase gratings give wide operational ranges for stable pulsation compared to those with in-phase gratings and index gratings. The operational ranges for stable pulsation increase as the coupling strength increases and the value of the gain coupling coefficient of anti-phase grating increases.
