Abstract

The effect of cortisone on vitamin D metabolism was investigated. The obtained results clearly show that cortisone influences the metabolism. It is suggested that the higher concentration of peak IV (25-Hydroxycholecalciferol, an active metabolite of vitamin D3) in the cortisone group possibly reflects a biological adaptation of the organism to overcome the inhibitory effect of cortisone on calcium absorption.
