Abstract

Ethanol yields from six yellow dent corn hybrids of different endosperm hardness were studied. Corn samples were milled, liquefied, saccharified and fermented.Endosperm hardness of hybrids was classified according to their true density. Ethanol and sugar levels in the mash were monitored using an HPLC method. Solids in the thin stillage and wet distillers grains were measured using a standard oven method. It was observed that ethanol yields increased with true density of corn hybrids. Thin stillage and wet distillers grain did not show any significant correlation (R2 <0.45) with bulk density.
