Abstract

The incidence of umbilical cord entanglement from this study is 20.4%. The mean Apgar score was lower and the mean duration of labor longer in the tightly cord-entangled (TCE) infants compared to the loosely cord-entangled (LCE) group. However, no difference occurred in birthweight and placental weight between the two groups. Perinatal mortality was higher (42.9/1000) compared to the overall study group (20.4/1000). Cord entanglement had no relationship to parity but was more prevalent in male babies than in females.
