Abstract

Purpose: This group previously reported that proteins recovered from conventional hydrogel contact lenses retain their antimicrobial function, with the extent of this activity depending on the care solution used to treat lenses during wear. This study used tear proteins recovered from PureVision silicone hydrogel lenses to examine how antimicrobial activity is affected by carrying out the assays directly in a disinfecting solution containing Polyaminopropyl Biguanide and Polyquaturnium-1, as well as the individual components of the multipurpose solution (MPS).
